Outspoken: Music for Free Speech
FIRE proudly presents its first-ever classical music concert in support of free expression. At the podium is conductor Rebecca Bryant Novak, whose expulsion from the University of Rochester鈥檚 Eastman School of Music followed her outspoken writing about the mishandling of her sexual harassment complaint. The evening will feature internationally acclaimed violinist Lara St. John, praised by The New York Times as 鈥渁 high-powered soloist.鈥 The repertoire includes works by composers who themselves faced censorship, such as Dmitri Shostakovich, illuminating the timeless connection between civil liberties and artistic expression.
